NANS To Meet Education Minister Adamu And Ngige Over ASUU Demands

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has said that it will engage the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, and Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, over the report that the Federal Government doesn’t have money to settle the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).Recall the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo who recently on Channels Television, said that the Federal government can’t borrow 1.1trillion to settle ASUU and that parents beg ASUU to call off the strike. However, his comment didn’t go down well for the student union.

The NANS Vice President on Special Duties, Odiahi Ikhine, while addressing the news conference in Abuja yesterday, made it known that the students were unhappy with his utterances regarding the ongoing strike.

Ikhine said the leaders of the union would meet with the Education Minister Adamu Adamu and Labour Minister Ngige, to find out what is happened after President Buhari gave the directive that the industrial action be resolved in two weeks only for the government officials to come out later on to say that there is no money to fulfil the the demands the striking lecturers.

NANS further promised the affected students that they won’t relent in the struggle in making sure the strike is called off and varsities are reopened.
