The Chief Spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar-Ifeanyi Okowa Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Senator Dino Melaye, has described the Naira redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as political, alleging that the move was a ploy by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to sway voters at the 2023 general elections.

In the one minute 45 seconds video obtained by POLITICS NIGERIA, Melaye accused the ruling APC of vote-buying, while saying his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), “was starved of funds”.

The PDP chieftain stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was complicit in the Naira redesign controversy.

“Because money was given to Bola Tinubu, the APC shared new notes on Election Day across the country and the PDP was starved of funds. Naira redesign was a ploy by INEC to deceive Nigerians,” Melaye said.

Melaye’s accusation comes hours after he joined other PDP leaders to stage a peaceful protest at the INEC headquarters in Maitama, Abuja. The PDP is protesting the outcome of the February 25 presidential election which it lost to the APC.
