Protest: Some aggrieved Nigerians have stormed the Abuja headquarters of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to demand the resignation and arrest of the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele over the failed new naira notes policy.
The protesters who wielded placards were sighted at the premises of the apex bank where they complained of the hardship meted -out to ordinary Nigerians by the eCBN Gov, Emefiele’s naira policy.
The group under the auspices of George Uboh Whistle-blower Network vowed to occupy the apex bank until their demands were met.
Some of the inscriptions on their placards read; “Emefiele Must Go”; “CBN Now Bureau De Change”; “Emefiele Bring Out The Names of Those You Gave Our Money To”; “Where Is The 500 Billion You Cried on Tape Is Missing?”; “What Happened To Anchor Borrowers Programme and many others?”
Addressing journalists, the Convener of the protest, George Uboh said Emefiele had committed genocide for subjecting Nigerians to pains and hardship for mopping up old naira notes and forcing people to queue endlessly at various banks in order to get cash.
He said “We are demanding that Godwin Emefiele in his capacity as the Governor of CBN should make available the new naira notes. He must also come out here to address the people because the Supreme Court in its ruling pronounced that the new naira notes policy has caused the Nigerian masses undue hardship.”
As of the time of this report, the security agents including the Police, the Nigerian Army and Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have surrounded the building to prevent any possible breakdown of law and order.
