In a decisive move, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a robust warning to manufacturers and dealers involved in regulated products, urging them to cease the production and sale of counterfeit and substandard goods.
Martins Iluyomade, the Director of NAFDAC’s South East zone, delivered the stern caution during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Owerri, the capital of Imo State. The gathering, organized by Mercy Ndukwe, the State Director of NAFDAC, convened officials from various associations dealing in NAFDAC-regulated products within the state.
Iluyomade emphasized NAFDAC’s commitment to ensuring that products manufactured and traded in the country meet both local and international standards. He urged officials to maintain consistency in product quality from production to sale, without necessitating constant supervision.
“NAFDAC is expanding its scope beyond testing products solely during production inspections,” he stated, adding, “We have established a committee tasked with purchasing products from markets for independent analysis.”
Ndukwe, the State Director of NAFDAC, highlighted that the purpose of the meeting was to foster collaboration with stakeholders and to apprise them of the agency’s agenda for the year. She underscored the importance of ensuring that stakeholders adhere to NAFDAC guidelines in their business operations.
Dr. Norbert Ajero, the state Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, pledged unwavering support from members towards NAFDAC’s initiatives, promising continued cooperation with the agency.
