Man Bags Jail Term For Stealing A Fellow Inmate Money While Serving Jail Term For Another Count of Theft.

One Habib Dada, has been sentenced to jail by a Dei Dei Area court for stealing money while in detention at a police station in Abuja.

Dada, 34, who bagged a six-month jail term, reportedly stole N13,250 belonging to another suspect in the police cell.

According to Bellnews, the convict who resides in Guzape, Asokoro village pleaded guilty to escaping from lawful custody and theft, and begged for leniency.

Delivering judgement on Monday, Sulyman Ola, however, gave Dada an option to pay a fine of N40,000 for the two-count charge and warned him to desist from committing crime.

The convict was ordered to pay the full sum of N13,250 which he stole from police counter.

The prosecutor, Chinedu Ogada, had earlier disclosed that the accused was originally arrested and detained at Efab Estate police station on 29th of April in connection with a case of gym equipment, iPhone and car battery theft.

Ogada said Dada was able to escape when a police officer opened the cell and brought out two suspects.

The convict took advantage of the opportunity and sneakily moved to the counter, where he stole the money and fled.

According to the prosecutor, police eventually tracked down the accused and re-arrested him.
