A man known as Onuora, described as middle-aged, has been apprehended and is currently in police custody at the Inland Town Police Division in Onitsha, Anambra State. He is accused of raping a schoolgirl in the Onitsha area.

Reports indicate that the suspect was arrested at the Ado Girls Secondary School in Onitsha by security operatives who had been monitoring his movements.

According to a police source, the suspect had developed a pattern of laying ambush around the school premises, targeting his victims.

Upon the arrest of the suspect, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has intervened, demanding that the suspect be remanded in custody. Prof. Ngozi Chumthe a-Udeh, the state Commissioner for Education, revealed this in a statement, stating that the governor specifically requested the suspect’s remand at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka while investigations into the alleged rape case continue.

“The suspect is currently detained at the Inland Town Police Division in Onitsha,” Prof. Chumthe a-Udeh confirmed.

Governor Soludo condemned the alleged act, vowing to exhaust all legal means to ensure justice is served. He urged the people of Anambra to speak out against such despicable acts.

Efforts to reach the state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, for further information proved unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls and messages on his telephone.

It is worth recalling that the Anambra State Police Command had previously arrested and detained no fewer than 11 suspects in various cases of rape and defilement. DSP Ikenga disclosed this in a statement, noting that the Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, directed that all suspects implicated in the investigations be promptly arraigned in court once the investigations are concluded.
