In a joint effort, operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) successfully rescued a male accident victim on Monday at the Anthony-Oke Bridge, heading towards the Gbagada area of Lagos.
Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, confirmed the incident on LASTMA’s official handle on X. The accident victim had suffered serious internal injuries in a multiple-vehicle collision involving three vehicles, including a mini-bus.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the driver of a ‘Suzuki’ mini-bus, while traveling at a high speed and vying for the right of way with other vehicles, experienced brake failure. Consequently, the mini-bus collided with two other vehicles on the Anthony Bridge.
“After LASTMA officials cleared all the accidented vehicles off the road and handed them over to Policemen from Ilupeju Police Division for further investigation, the accident victim and other vehicles (Toyota Corolla GGE 824 JA) & (Toyota Venza KSF 954 HG) on top of Anthony Bridge,” stated the official release.
The accident victim was promptly transported to the General Hospital in Ikeja by officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) for medical attention.
Bakare-Oki Olalekan, the General Manager of LASTMA, appealed to the motoring public to avoid competing for the right of way with other vehicles and emphasized the importance of ensuring that the braking systems of their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on any journey within or outside the state.
