Leaders of the Labour Party (LP) have condemned the alleged “serial inflammatory blackmail” of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, by the Publicity Secretary of the Lamidi Apapa-led faction of the party, Abayomi Arabambi.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, the joint leadership of the Labour Party Leaders Conference for National Consolidation (LPLCNC), Labour Party National Pressure Group (LPNPG), and the Labour Party Primary Elections Independent Observer Group (LPPEIOG) said that Arabambi’s actions were “unacceptable and should be condemned in the strongest terms.”

The statement, signed by National Secretary of the LPLCNC, Comrade Tony Akeni, and eight others, said that Arabambi had “continued to prove that he is an irreparable political party destroyer without civilised self-control and restraint.”

The leaders called on the Apapa faction to “prevail on Arabambi to discontinue his vitriolic and unacceptable diatribes against the integrity and reputation of our party leader, H.E Peter Obi.”

They also warned that they would “condone no one who lays claim to membership of the Labour Party yet breaks the hedge to make false denigrating, anti-party public statements, and least to mention unfounded, inflammatory statements against our global leader, HE Peter Obi.”

The statement comes hours after the Supreme Court dismissed the petition of Peter Obi and his counterpart in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, thereby affirming the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.
