The Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has announced that Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWD) wishing to take the 2024/2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) can register at no cost. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, made this disclosure during the rollout of the registration process for interested candidates nationwide.

Oloyede emphasized the board’s commitment to supporting PLWD by providing free application documents for all categories of individuals in this group for the 2024 UTME/DE (Direct Entry). In addition, audio books will be made available for blind candidates as a digital adaptation of traditional reading materials. These audiobooks will be offered in popular formats such as MP3, WMV, and WMA, ensuring compatibility with various devices capable of streaming audio records.

The initiative to provide audiobooks was suggested during the first National Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education in Nigeria. Beyond blind candidates, other groups benefiting from the free registration include individuals with Down syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Oloyede affirmed that these categories of candidates would be listed under the disability group to ensure they receive appropriate support during the registration process.
