INEC Chairman Meets US Officials In Washington Over 2023 Election

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, on Tuesday met with senior officials of the United States’ Department of State in Washington, including the Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security and Human Rights, Urza Zeya; and the Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Molly Phee; to discuss preparations for the 2023 Nigerian General Election.

Bellnewsonline.com reports that Prof. Yakubu is also billed to meet with senior officials of the U.S. Institute of Peace, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), Commission on Presidential Debates, and the U.S. Federal Electoral Commission.

The INEC Chairman and his team are in the U.S at the invitation of the IFES.

The 2023 Nigerian elections will be held, in large part, on 25 February and 11 March 2023. The President and Vice President will be elected on 25 February.
