Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has denied media reports that his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike, and his allies are supporting the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi.

Bellnewsonline.com learned that five Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors met recently in Enugu State to allegedly deliberate on backing Obi’s presidential ambition.

According to a report, the governors are aiming to support Obi because they are not pleased with the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar.

Governor Wike and his loyalists have insisted that the National Chairman of the Party, Iyorchia Ayu, must resign from office before they can consider supporting Atiku in 2023.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Sun, Ikpeazu stated that there was no time that the five PDP governors discussed Obi or speak about supporting his presidential ambition.

He asked PDP members and other party supporters to disregard media reports that he and his colleagues are planning to back Obi for the 2023 presidency.

He said: “No, we never discussed Peter Obi in our meeting. Peter Obi is my brother and I’m proud of what he is doing. It will be a great disservice to his person and where he comes from, where both of us come from, for me to discuss him openly.

“How am l going to discuss Peter Obi openly, how proud can a man from his side be when you see your brother running 100 metres in less than seven seconds and you are discussing him?

“We are only discussing our party, PDP, our Goliath, we must kill, our cross, we must carry. So, it’s not Peter Obi that put us where we are, it’s not Peter Obi that put us in trouble.“
