Shiekh Ahmad Gumi had reacted to the constant arresting of Fulani herders by Amotekun.
Shiekh Ahmad Gumi a popular and controversial Islamic cleric, has criticized the activities of the Amotekun security outfit in the southwest.
It should be noted that Amotekun has been very active in catching suspected criminals in some southwestern states.
In the 6th paragraph of an article written by the cleric on his official Facebook page, he wrote, “But if Amotekun, for instance, has unconstitutionally given itself the power to arrest Fulani herdsmen and curb their free movement in the southwest without corresponding outfits that can check yorubas who are widespread in the north, that is a time bomb for ethnic clashes as we saw previously between Yoruba and Hausa in Lagos in the late 90’s.”
In my opinion, the cleric might not be far from the truth. However, a similar outfit should be created in the North. Also, the claim of the cleric that the movement of herders is restricted by Amotekun should be investigated before it brews hate between members of the two tribes.
