A 33-year-old man, Musa Adamu, who has been arrested with four AK-47 rifles, says a repented armed robbery colleague surrendered them to him.
Adamu, a resident of Mayo Belwa Local Government Area of Adamawa State but currently in detention at the Adamawa Police Command headquarters in Yola on charge of illegal possession of firearms, confessed to the police that he had been involved in kidnapping in the past but had repented from it, insisting that the four guns he was caught with were handed to him to keep.
Adamu told the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Suleiman Nguroje, that when one of his former gang members heard that he had repented from kidnapping, he called and told him that he wanted to meet and surrender his guns.
He added that the man in question and one other came and surrendered four AK-47 rifles without ammunition to him.
He said he was arrested by the police in Gombi LGA, the very day he was given the weapons.
He insisted that he did not mean to use the guns for any nefarious activities as he had given up such activities.
“I was a kidnapper and I once worked with other people and abducted two residents in Taraba, one in Numan and one in Mayo Belwa LGA of Adamawa respectively, but I have long repented,” he said.
Speaking in light of the development, the police spokesman Nguroje extended the commendation of the state Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Adeniyi, to the operatives of the Command attached to Crack Squad and Gombi local hunters for arresting Adamu.
He assured that Adamu and all other suspects in the case and other cases would be investigated and prosecuted.
