During Thursday’s plenary session in Abuja, a motion titled “Need to Extend UTME Registration by JAMB,” sponsored by Hassan Shinkafi and addressing urgent public importance, led to a resolution in the House of Representatives.

Shinkafi highlighted the difficulties encountered during the UTME registration period, which began on January 15 and ended on February 26, 2024. He emphasized that economic challenges in the nation had hindered many families from registering their children within the allotted timeframe.

The motion stressed the importance of extending the registration period to ensure that all candidates have the opportunity to participate in the examination. Shinkafi pointed out the risk of reduced coverage and participation if an extension is not granted, particularly affecting underprivileged students whose parents may struggle to register them.

The House of Representatives, in response to the motion, urged JAMB to extend the registration period by two weeks. Additionally, the relevant committees on Education and Legislative Compliance were instructed to ensure strict compliance with the extension.

Meanwhile, JAMB has announced the commencement of sales of Direct Entry (DE) forms for its 2024 examination. Interested candidates are invited to purchase and register for the examination, with the registration procedure starting on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, and concluding on Thursday, March 28, 2024.
