House of Assembly Report: Ikedoji Moves For the Establishment Of Nnewi General Hospital – Video

The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on the Executive arm of government to commence the establishment of a General Hospital in Nnewi North local government area.

This, they said, is to bring healthcare services closer to the people.

The sponsor of the motion,  Hon. Ike-Ikedoji representing Nnewi North Constituency explained some sections of the 1999 constitution of the country as amended which affirm that government shall provide adequate medical and health facilities for all persons but his constituents were not benefiting optimally from the provisions.

According to him, though Nnewi North has a Federal government Teaaching Hospital, the establishment of a General Hospital in the area will help to reduce the loads and pressure presently on the existing facility in the town.

Hon. Ike-Ikedoji noted that the people had already donated land for the purpose and were willing to partner the government in building the relevant structures once the Soludo led administration approves of it.

The member representing Ihiala Constituency Two, Mr Golden Iloh regretted that the Teaching Hospital was being over stretched by patients hence the need to establish a General Hospital in the area to help reduce pressure in the only existing Teaching Hospital in the area.

Mr Noble Igwe of Ogbaru Constituency One, while supporting the motion, noted that there is no doubt that there are people in the area that can partner the government in the establishment of a General Hospital in Nnewi which will in turn improve the affordability of healthcare services of the people.

The member representing Awka South Constituency, One , Mr Henry Mbachu while narrating his ugly experience at the Teaching Hospital, said there is the need to establish another hospital to reduce the pressure on the existing one.

Mr Chidi Ibemeka representing Njikoka Constituency One, regretted the traffic of patients seeking healthcare services at the only renowned health facility in the area hence the need for government to come to their rescue.

The Member representing Idemili North Constituency,. Mr Kingsley Udemezue said the delay to see a doctor no doubt can kill as early detection of ailment brings healing to patients.

Contributing, Mr Jude Akpua representing Njikoka Constituency Two, while noting that the situation of the masses as regards to healthcare has become worrisome hence the need for the government to consider the appeal by the people of Nnewi and environs.

The Member representing Agauata Constituency, Two and Chairman House Committee on Health, Mr Tony Moubike, said the establishment of a General Hospital in the area will improve the health status of the people.

Nkechi Ogbuefi representing Anaocha Constituency One observed that when established, it will reduce the rate of infant and female mortality in the state as well as help the state to realize the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations which is universal health coverage for all.
