Gunmen Suspected to be Herdsmen Kill Ekiti Monarchs, Prompting Police Investigation

In a tragic incident in Ekiti State, two traditional rulers fell victim to gunmen suspected to be herdsmen. The unfortunate event occurred between Oke-Ako and Ipao-Ekiti in Ajoni Local Government Area on Monday, as reported by The PUNCH.

The slain monarchs were identified as the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti in Ajoni, Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State. The attack transpired while they were returning from a meeting. According to sources, as disclosed by Oodua News, another monarch, the Alara of Ara in Ikole LG, narrowly escaped as the armed assailants attacked the group, attempting to forcefully abduct them.

Reportedly, the armed herdsmen intercepted the group, fired bullets at them, and seized their personal belongings before dragging their lifeless bodies into the nearby bush.

The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abutu Sunday, confirmed the incident when contacted by Punch Metro. Abutu assured that the police had received the report and deployed tactical and intelligent teams to Ikole-Ekiti for further investigation.

“Yes, we got the report. There is a suspected murder. The incident happened at Ikole-Ekiti. Our tactical and intelligent team have been deployed to the area. We don’t have the details for now, but the investigation has commenced to know what really happened,” Abutu stated.
