Governor Wike Speaks On Decision To Dump The PDP Amid Crisis With Atiku

The leaders of the People Democratic Party (PDP) are yet to be able to resolve the crisis currently rocking the party. Several attempts to proffer solutions to the grievance of the camp of Governor Nyesom Wike have failed. The crisis has seen the PDP divided into two sides as the Governors in Governor Wike’s camp now call themselves the G-5 governors.

Many prominent members of the PDP have asked the leaders of the party to expel Governor Nyesom Wike and those who are supporting him, but nothing has been done to that effect. You will recall that the chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu in one of his statements described Governor Nyesom Wike as an important member of the party.

There have also, been call to Governor Nyesom Wike to dump the party since the leaders of the party are yet to meet the demands he has made to them for reconciliation to take place. The Rivers State, Governor in a recent statement has made it known that he would continue to remain in the opposition party. Governor Nyesom Wike made this known during a meeting of the PDP stakeholders in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The Governor noted that those who run away from fights are weak people and that he would not do so. Governor Wike disclosed that the party constitution stated that elective and party offices must be zoned. He noted that the presidential candidate position, the chairman position, and the campaign DG position has been zoned to a particular region.

Governor Wike further noted that decisions of the party are taken by the Presidential Candidate, Chairman and Campaign DG. He said one can put pressure on the BOT chairman to resign when his tenure has not come to an end. But the same person cannot put pressure on the Chairman to resign. The demand of Governor Nyesom Wike includes the resignation of the PDP chairman among others.

Meanwhile, the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar has disclosed that he is ready to listen to Governor Wike and his supporters for a peace talk.
