Tragedy struck at Kpakpando FM, a private radio station situated in Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, as a fire outbreak engulfed the premises.
The incident, which occurred around 9:30 pm on Thursday, resulted in the destruction of the station’s office building, with significant damage inflicted on its studio equipment.
State Fire Chief, Engr Martin Agbili, confirmed the occurrence, reassuring that there were no casualties. He credited the swift response of his firefighting team for salvaging some equipment amidst the blaze.
“At approximately 9:39 pm on Thursday, 7th March 2024, the Anambra State Fire Service received a distress call concerning a fire outbreak at KPAKPANDO FM, MBAUKWU,” stated Agbili.
“Without delay, we dispatched our fire truck and courageous firefighters to the scene. Through concerted efforts, we managed to bring the fire under control and extinguish it. The cause of the fire remains undetermined. While the office building and studio equipment suffered partial damage, our timely intervention ensured the preservation of certain equipment and sections of the building.”
Agbili further noted that the firefighting operation concluded at approximately 11:18 pm, with the fire service team withdrawing from the scene thereafter.
