The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Works, has announced plans to initiate repair works on the damaged expansion joints of the Long Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

In a statement issued by the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Keisha, the repair is scheduled to commence from 7 a.m. on Monday, March 4, and will continue until March 25, 2024.

During this period, commuters traveling to and from Lagos through the Long Bridge will experience lane restrictions, with traffic narrowed to two lanes on both sides of the bridge. This adjustment is to facilitate the repair works on the other two lanes of the carriageways by the contractor.

Keisha emphasized, “All road users are advised to be patient and adhere to lane discipline on both approaches to the Long Bridge and around the narrowed sections on the bridge.”

To alleviate traffic congestion during the repair period, the earth road beside the Shagamu bound carriageway will be made motorable as an alternative route. Motorists are urged to cooperate with traffic management officials to ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize inconvenience during the repair works.

The statement also expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation and understanding, acknowledging the inconveniences that may arise during the repair period.

This repair initiative comes after motorists expressed dissatisfaction with the temporary repairs conducted by Julius Berger Nigeria Limited on the damaged joints of the Longbridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The repair works are crucial for ensuring the safety and functionality of this vital transportation artery.
