The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has allocated N1.7 billion in the 2024 budget for the establishment of a pioneering Smart Secondary School in the FCT, according to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. The announcement was made in Abuja during an event celebrating the academic and sports achievements of public school students in the FCT.
Represented by the Mandate Secretary, Education Secretariat, FCTA, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, Wike highlighted that the initiative aligns with global trends in digital teaching and learning. The proposed smart school, situated in Karshi under the Abuja Municipal Area Council, will be equipped with boarding and digital facilities to facilitate e-teaching and learning.
The N1.7 billion allocation is part of the N13.1 billion approved for the renovation, rehabilitation, and construction of new schools in the FCT in 2024. If successful, the project may be expanded to other schools in the territory to enhance the quality of education.
Wike expressed optimism about completing the project within the year and detailed the facilities that would be incorporated, including computers, inter-service, smart boards, and other digital devices for e-teaching and learning.
In his remarks on students’ academic excellence, Wike commended the celebration as a testament to the talent, hard work, and dedication present in public schools in the FCT. He emphasized the importance of a balanced and holistic education, highlighting the values instilled by sports, such as discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.
The minister urged continued commitment to providing quality education to empower youths for a brighter future. He lauded the students for their achievements, considering them a source of inspiration for others to follow. Additionally, the Director of Secondary School Management Board, Dr. Mohammed Ladan, praised both students and teachers for exceptional performance in various competitions.
