Anamero Sunday Dekeri has been declared the winner of the 2024 Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election by the local government returning officers, following the contest held on Saturday.
Mr. Ojo Babatunde, spokesperson for the local government returning officers, announced on Saturday night that Dekeri secured a total of 25,384 votes, surpassing his closest rival Dennis Idahosa who garnered 14,127 votes.
Accompanied by other returning officers, Babatunde stated, “Hon. Dekeri, having met the legal requirements and obtaining the highest valid votes cast, has been declared the winner of the election and duly elected.”
Dekeri, currently serving as the representative for Etsako Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, emerged victorious in a field of 12 aspirants who were screened and cleared for the direct primary by the party’s National leadership.
However, there appears to be conflicting reports as Mr. Hope Uzodinma, Imo State governor and Chairman of the primary election committee, announced Hon. Dennis Idahosa as the winner of the exercise. Additionally, the returning officer for the primary, Dr. Stanley Ugboajah, declared Senator Monday Okpebholo as the APC candidate, adding further confusion to the outcome.”
