The Distillers and Blenders Association of Nigeria is poised to voice its discontent against the recent ban on the production and sale of alcoholic beverages in sachets by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
Scheduled to take place today at the NAFDAC Office on the Lagos-Oshodi Apapa Expressway, Isolo, Lagos, the protest aims to challenge the prohibition, asserting the association’s stance against it.
The decision to protest follows swiftly after Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director General of NAFDAC, declared on Monday the commencement of enforcement actions against the importation, manufacturing, distribution, sale, and usage of alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets, PET, and glass bottles of 200ml and below.
Adeyeye emphasized NAFDAC’s collaboration with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to ensure effective implementation of the ban, affirming their commitment to phase out the banned products from the market.
Addressing the media at a press conference in Abuja, the NAFDAC DG reiterated the agency’s dedication to enforcing the prohibition, signaling a shift in the regulation of alcohol packaging in Nigeria.
