In an intense showdown on their home soil, host country Cote d’Ivoire secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Nigeria to claim the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy.

The match began with Nigeria’s Captain Williams Troost-Ekong netting a goal in the 38th minute, igniting hopes of victory for the Super Eagles, reminiscent of their triumph over the Elephants in the group stage.

However, the tide turned when former Barcelona midfielder equalized in the 62nd minute, dashing Nigeria’s aspirations. With minutes dwindling, Sebastien Haller sealed the fate of the game with a decisive goal in the 81st minute, securing victory for Cote d’Ivoire.

With this triumph, the Elephants have now equaled Nigeria’s record of three continental titles.
