The Lagos State Government has unveiled plans to relocate the bustling Computer Village from its current location in Ikeja to Katangowa, situated in the Abule-Egba area. Dr. Olajide Babatunde, the Special Adviser to the Governor on eGIS and Urban Development, disclosed this development on Saturday, as reported by The PUNCH. Babatunde explained that the government's initiative aims to streamline market activities across the state, with the relocation of Computer Village being a significant part of the broader market reorganization efforts. He stated, "The reorganization of our markets is a priority. For instance, in Ikeja, we have the Computer Village, which is slated for relocation to Katangowa. However, this move isn't limited to Computer Village alone; various activities will also be integrated into the Katangowa market." The Special Adviser emphasized that the forthcoming weeks would witness significant strides in the government's efforts towards the Katangowa market. He elaborated, "We're transitioning individuals who currently occupy roadside spaces in Ikeja, causing traffic disruptions, into a well-structured market environment equipped with essential amenities. This includes childcare facilities, educational institutions, recreational areas, places of worship, storage facilities, accommodations, and hospitality services." Babatunde stressed the government's commitment to executing the relocation meticulously, aiming to ensure seamless operations and enhance urban development initiatives in Lagos. The relocation initiative, originally slated for 2017, faced delays. However, in 2023, former Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Wasiu Anifowose, affirmed that all necessary arrangements had been made to facilitate the relocation process.
