Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have launched another midnight attack on Benisheikh town along the Maiduguri–Damaturu Road in Borno State, raising fresh security concerns in the area.
Benisheikh, the headquarters of Kaga Local Government Area, came under attack around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, according to local sources.
A credible source said the insurgents appeared to be advancing toward the 29 Task Force Brigade of Operation Hadin Kai, the same location where Brigadier-General O. O. Braimah and several soldiers were killed on April 9.
Meanwhile, fighter jets and military helicopters were seen hovering over Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, located about 75 kilometres from Benisheikh, suggesting an ongoing military response.
Further details are expected as the situation develops.
