- The university of port Harcourt, UNIPORT has come out to state the reasons why it stopped its planned protest.
The student union government of the university has early plan a protest over the lingering ASUU strike embarked upon by the lecturers since on the 14th of February, 2022.
Different unions have staged in a peace protest to reveal their plight and sadness over the incessant strike action.
However, the UNIPORT SUG which planned a peaceful protest has come out to say the SUG body stopped the protest because the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has plan to call off the strike this week.
According to him “The union with some stakeholders of the National Association of Nigerian Students met and we considered the fact that the Academic Staff Union of Universities have reported progress in their discussion with Federal Government and have agreed to call off strike this week”
“The Union, after all deliberation have decided to postpone the proposed peaceful demonstrations to this effect while we await a positive response from them.
He added that he was cautious of the security wellbeing of the students especially during the current political activities that is involved in the country.
“We also have security information that the security of students is at stake arising from political and religious interests, especially with the current state of things in the state and country at large.” – part of the statement allegedly issued by the UNIPORT SUG stated
