The meeting between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the representatives of the federal government ended in deadlock on Tuesday, August 16, 2022.

The meeting was held at the headquarters of the National Universities Commission (NUC) in Abuja. The meeting started around 12:00 pm and ended around 3:00 pm.

The Federal Government’s team was headed by Professor Nimi Briggs.

According to a source present at the meeting who spoke with Bellnews Online on the condition of anonymity, ASUU walked out of the meeting because there was no offer on the table.

The representatives of the federal government were simply begging the aggrieved lecturers to call off their strike without any tangible offer.

Also confirming the development, a member of the ASUU National Executive Committee who asked not to be quoted told Bellnews Online that the government was “unserious” about the negotiations.

ASUU has been on strike since February 14, 2022. The strike, which has collapsed academic activities in universities, has reached six months.
