Some senators of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) walked out at Wednesday’s plenary session.
Bell News online reports that over ten legislators left the red chamber during the proceedings after Senate President Ahmad Lawan dismissed a resolution on security.
In a Point of Order, Senate Minority Leader, Philip Aduda, reminded the Senate of the motion passed following a closed-door meeting that lasted over two hours.
According to Aduda, the Senate was meant to discuss the subject of national security and the measures taken so far to combat the threat.
He also reminded his colleagues that they were meant to give the president an ultimatum to resolve the issues of insecurity and give an impeachment notice if the demands are not met.
However, Lawan interrupted Aduda, saying that he failed to cite the order and also did not discuss the issue with him privately.
Lawan claimed that the Senate has passed the stage of such an issue and has moved on to other business of the day.
This degenerated into a rowdy session in the senate as some aggrieved PDP lawmakers were seen leaving their seats and exiting the chamber.
Reacting to the walkout, some APC senators moved that the proceeding go on without their colleagues in the PDP.
