Akwa Ibom Police Apprehend 22 Suspects Linked to Inspector’s Murder and Cultism

The Akwa Ibom State Police have taken into custody 22 individuals, including an alleged serial killer, in connection with the murder of Inspector Usang Egbe and other activities related to cultism.

In a press release issued on Saturday in Uyo, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko Macdon, stated that the arrests occurred between January 31 and February 2. He emphasized that the police command remains committed to its fight against criminal elements.

Inspector Usang Egbe was reportedly beheaded by a group of more than 10 hoodlums on Wednesday night in his residence in Uyo.

Macdon disclosed that among the arrested suspects is Barracks, an alleged serial murderer hailing from Mbiaso village in Oruk Anam Local Government Area, who orchestrated the Inen Clan cult war.

The press statement highlighted, “On 30/01/24, at about 2330hrs, relying on credible intelligence, Anti-Cultism Unit of the Command arrested one Emem Ime Friday, alias Barracks, a serial murderer from Mbiaso village in Oruk Anam Local Government Area, who masterminded the Inen Clan cult war.”

Furthermore, Macdon revealed another murder case, stating, “Similarly, on 23/1/2023, one Happiness Isaiah Ekanem and three others from Ikono Local Government Area, who conspired and killed one Imo Isaiah Ekanem, aged 32 years, of the same address, by beating him to death and secretly buried the corpse, have been arrested, and investigation is ongoing.”
