Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, criticized President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, particularly the rapid implementation of exchange rate unification, alleging inadequate planning and stakeholder consultations.

Atiku’s statement on Thursday highlighted his concerns regarding Nigeria’s economic direction under Tinubu’s administration, suggesting a lack of concrete policy measures to address ongoing economic challenges.

He expressed disappointment in Tinubu’s handling of a meeting convened to address the foreign exchange crisis and economic downturn, accusing the administration of perpetuating policies leading to widespread hardship.

Atiku emphasized the need for effective policy interventions to steer the country away from its current economic woes, citing his own proposed measures outlined in his 2023 presidential election policy document, “My Covenant With Nigerians.”

Among his pledges was a commitment to reform the foreign exchange market by eliminating multiple exchange rate windows, which he criticized for benefiting only opportunists, middlemen, and fraudsters.
