It was the end of the road for a 16-year-old teenager who was said to have been arrested inside a cemetery while attempting to exhume a corpse inside a grave in order to remove body parts and clothes after he was paid N5,000 for the job in Niger State, the state police command announced on Tuesday, May 24.
The teenager, whose name was given as Lawali Abubakar, aged 16 years, from Kasuwan-Gwari, Minna, the state capital, was arrested by police operatives attached to the Chanchaga Division of the state police command at Chanchaga cemetery when he attempted to exhume a corpse from the grave following a tip-off received by the operatives over the matter.
It was gathered that Abubakar was given the sum of N5,000 by a man, whose name he gave as Salisu Hamisu, to get him body parts and clothes of a freshly buried corpse and it was while he was exhuming a corpse at the cemetery that he was arrested.
His arrest was announced by the state police command through its Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, on the Facebook wall of the command on Tuesday which added that during investigation, it was found out that this was not the first time he engaged in exhuming corpse
According to the statement, it was found out during investigation that he also engaged in a similar act last year at Bosso cemetery where he exhumed and removed four fingers of a corpse. He was said to have told policemen that he was sent by one Sadiq to get the fingers and was paid N3,000.
The statement added that he had confessed committing the act and is currently giving more useful information to the police operatives after which he will be charged to the court of law while a manhunt was said to have been launched to arrest both Salisu and Sodiq who sent him on the errands.
