Nigerian parents recently proposed the sum of N10,000 as support levies for universities.
According to the source, the proposal was made by through the National Parent-Teacher Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN).
This was as a result of the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The strike began on February 14, 2022 as ASUU demands for better condition of service in line with its 2009 agreement with the federal government.
NAPTAN’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Ademola Ekundayo, revealed in a recent interview that the association is making efforts to have discussions with the Federal Government over the lingering strike.
He said, “We have submitted a letter to the Office of the Education Minister, seeking for audience where we hope to discuss a proposal”
The association proposed a levy of N10, 000 per session for each parent to create more funds for the government for universities.
He suggested that the contribution could be called parent support levy for universities.
Ekundayo was displeased with the situation of students who have been home for months, as a result of the disagreement between the Federal Government and ASUU.
He said parents were suffering the effects.
He also pleaded with the ASUU and Federal Government to immediately resolve their differences.
