Members and Executives of Nnewi Concerned Citizens (Home and Abroad) ably led by the Chairman, Hon.Okwuchukwu Maduabuchi Chukwujobi have taken it as a relevant responsibility to pay courtesy visitation to the four quarters of Nnewi ,meeting with Stakeholders and insisting that the 1997 Rotational System Agreement of the Local Government Council Administration must be adhered to.

The first point of call was the palace of the Igwe Nnewi, HRH Igwe KON Orizu 111 JP, CON. There, they were warmly and personally received by the Igwe himself. After presenting their case before the Igwe, the Igwe clarified that it has always been his stand that the 1997 Rotational Agreement of the Local Government Council Administration be adhered to in all it’s ramifications, and as a man of truth and principles, he cannot go back on his words.

He insisted that it is the turn of Nnewichi to produce the next Nnewi North Local Government Chairman.

From Otolo, Nnewi concerned Citizens Executives moved in a convoy to the palace of Obi Nnewichi, where the Obi, His Highness, Obi George Onyekaba JP (Obidiugwu) was already waiting for them. After the Chairman presented their case, the Obi stressed that what has kept the town peaceful and conducive over the years is the strict compliance to the Local Government Rotational System.

He pointed out that the Agreement is very explicit and clear that when one quarter completes it’s tenure, it moves to the next quarter. And that since the Umudim quarter is presently having their tenure, the logical thing is for it to move on to Nnewichi. He wondered why Umudim should insist on retaining the position after the expiration of their tenure. He blamed those who misinformed the Governor on the position of things.

He further called on the Governor, Prof.Charles Chukwuma Soludo to reconsider his stance on the matter.

Nnewi Concerned Citizen executive also took the matter to Dr. Innocent Chukwuma (Ifediaso Nnewi) where they were personally and happily received by Innoson himself. In a brief chat, the Chairman Nnewi Concerned Citizens, who is also the Chairman of South East For Good Governance and Vice President of Ndi Nnewi in ASPAMDA, had this to say: “”It’s of great concern to us when our Monarch will speak about the 1997 Rotational System Agreement in the Local Government and some people will undermine his utterance.

In Nnewi,we have four quarters which are: Otolo, Uruagu, Umudim and Nnewichi. As a result of the peaceful atmosphere which the rotational system continues to engender, other communities in Anambra State have adopted similar system.

Otolo is the head, followed by Uruagu, Umudim and Nnewichi. Umudim is presently there, so it is the turn of Nnewichi, after which it will revert back to Otolo.”

On the argument that 2 years is too short for a Local Government Chairman to achieve something tangible, he countered: “”If there’s a Law guiding us,we can’t just change the narrative in the middle of the game.

You don’t change the post in the middle of a football game. The present Agreement says: “After this quarter, the next quarter should go” and everything is based on tenure, nothing else. So if your tenure is over, you leave and another quarter goes.

Whether the tenure is one, two, three or four years is not the issue. It’s based on tenure. The Anambra State Government in it’s wisdom fixed the Local Government tenure for two years and other Chairmen have kept to that arrangement, why is the present administration going contrary to this effect?”

On their mission to Nnewi Stakeholders, he answered: “” Yes, because of what is happening in Nnewi this time around,we are not happy with the way things are going. We don’t understand a situation where our Monarch will speak and stand on the truth, then someone will say that he’s an old man;that’s what actually provoked us members of the Nnewi Concerned Citizens.

Thus, For the purpose of justice, the Igwe wrote to the Governor explaining to him that for the reason of fairness and equity, the people that will represent Nnewi North in the next Local Government election are the people from Nnewichi, that is where I stand. I stand where my Monarch is standing.”

On the way forward, he posited:”” The way forward is for all Nnewi sons and daughters both home and in the Diaspora, to stand on the 1997 Rotational System Agreement and allow Nnewichi to take their turn.

Special thanks to all the members of Nnewi Concerned Citizens. Special thanks to Dr. Austin Ifeanyi Epunam(Atu Nnewi),

Pastor Ifeanyi Ejimbe also special appreciation to Obi Nnewichi and all the Obis. Special appreciation to Chief Gabriel Chukwuma and his brother Dr. Innocent Chukwuma (Ifediaso Nnewi)for standing for the truth.

I express my profound gratitude to all well-meaning Nnewi sons and daughters. We want Nnewi to get better.

For our beloved community Nnewi to get better,God is going to use a lot of people like you and me to achieve this. I pray that when history will be written, you will not be recorded as a villain, but as a Hero. Thank you.”
