The Nyesom Wike-backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, says it has extended invitation to the Taminu Turaki-led faction to have one formidable party.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Wike group, Jungudo Mohammed, made this known in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ on Monday.
He said the Turaki group has, however, refused to show up with no reason given.
Recall that the PDP has been faced with internal political wranglings in recent times with two different factions.
“As for the reconciliation, following the advisory position of the Court of Appeal Ibadan, even prior to that time, we have always extended an invitation to the Turaki group to come forward so that we can have one single, formidable PDP.
“Unfortunately, things had continued to go the way it went. Not until when the Court of Appeal made pronouncements that affirmed the decisions of the two lower courts.
“Time is not on our side. INEC had already released timetable. The new Electoral Act has further made things quite very tight for political parties and aspirants alike.
“So for us coming from the Court of Appeal, what we feel is best for the PDP and for its members is to forge ahead, map out plans that will make sure that there’s a platform for aspiring members to contest elections.
“So reconciliation is still open. It is something that we are still considering, but there is little or nothing we can do if the people who we want them to come forward and not willing to come,” he said.
