The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has stated that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is not a member of the ruling party but currently serves under an APC-led government headed by President Bola Tinubu.
Basiru made this clarification while reacting to public debates over Wike’s political alignment and his role in the Tinubu administration.
He explained that Wike’s performance in office has strengthened the image of the APC government in the Federal Capital Territory.
Speaking during an appearance on Beyond The Headlines, Basiru linked the APC’s recent victory in the FCT local government elections to the scale of infrastructure projects carried out under Wike’s supervision.
He said visible development across Abuja and surrounding communities helped shape voters’ confidence in the ruling party.
According to him, the changes were not limited to major city centres but extended to suburban and previously neglected areas.
Basiru described Wike’s performance as “sterling” and said it reflected positively on the Tinubu administration.
He added that the party’s internal strategies also contributed to its success at the polls.
The APC scribe noted that the party focused on engaging residents directly and presenting candidates with proven political records, even if they came from different political backgrounds.
This, he said, combined with infrastructure delivery, made the APC more appealing to voters in the FCT.
He stressed that the achievements of the current FCT administration cannot be separated from the outcome of the elections.
Basiru insisted that governance and political success are closely connected when citizens can see tangible projects.
According to Basiru:
“Wike is not a member of our party, but he works for an APC government headed by Tinubu.
“When you see the massive infrastructural development that has occurred in the FCT, not only in the urban areas, but even in the suburbs.
“In the past two and half years, you’ll discover that the sterling performance of the FCT Minister together with the engagement that our party has done and the careful selection of candidates who have the history of a sterling different political parties have contributed to APC’s victory in the FCT local government elections.
“So you can’t discountenance effective administrative deployment of the dividends of democracy in the FCT under the present FCT administration from the success of our party in that election.”
