Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have kidnapped Godwin Aigbogun, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ugu Ward, Orhionmwon Local Government Area (LGA) of Edo State.
Bellnews Online learned that Aigbogun was kidnapped on Monday, at Ologbo-nugu Community, on his way from the farm.
The assailant stormed out of the bush and forced the victim’s vehicle to stop at gunpoint. They subsequently whisked him away.
This newspaper gathered that the kidnappers have begun talks with the victim’s family members using his phone.
“They have contacted the family and are demanding N5 million ransom for his release,” a source said.
Police in Edo have confirmed the incident, adding that they are on top of the situation.
Despite the Nigerian Senate passing a law prescribing life imprisonment for kidnappers, the crime has not ceased.
According to a report by SBM, more than $18.3 million in ransom money was paid to Nigerian kidnappers between 2011 and 2020.
Some unknown gunmen, numbering 15, have kidnapped Isiaka Dauda, the District Head of Kuchibuyi Byazhin ward, Bwari area council Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Bellnews Online reports that the traditional ruler was abducted on Sunday morning at his private residence, located close to his palace.
The Area Commander in Kubwa, ACP Muhammad Ndagi, confirmed the incident, noting that an investigation into the matter was ongoing.
