The governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah has again reacted to the prolonged detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafr (IPOB).
Mbah urged President Bola Tinubu to address the issue of Kanu’s detention by releasing the IPOB leader.
The governor made the call while answering questions from a participant at the ongoing Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference in Enugu.Japan trip
The question on Kanu’s detention stemmed from his presentation at the conference on the topic, “Leadership and Transformation”.
According to the governor, releasing the IPOB leader is the “right thing to do.”
The participant had during the session, urged the governor to remain steadfast in his advocacy for the release of Kanu.
In his response, Mbah said that during his first meeting with President Tinubu, the issue of Kanu’s detention was raised.
“My first visit to the President was about Nnamdi Kanu. I believe that the right thing to do is to release him. Hopefully, that will be done soon,” Mbah stated.
He added that some of the activities carried out in the South East region due to Kanu’s detention- including the sit-at-home have stopped.
He said his administration is committed to maintaining peace, stability and law and order in the state.
“We met a situation where people were compelled to stay at home every Monday. Now, people trade in Ogbete and other markets in peace on Mondays. Monday sit-at-home has ended in Enugu, as you (lawyers) can see. You can also move around and investigate,” Mbah noted.
