If Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate, wins the 2023 elections, the South-East branch of the All Progressives Congress, or APC, has started taking steps to acquire the offices of Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
When Abdullahi Adamu returns to the nation, a delegation will meet with him, according to a prominent party official in the South-East who spoke to Newsmen.
“If the South-West has the presidency while both the North-West and North-East are still negotiating for running mate, it is only fair to allow the South-East take the senate presidency and SGF,” he said.
However, when the publication contacted Deputy National Chairman (South) and former South-East chairman of the party, Emmanuel Enekwu, he denied knowledge of any agitation for senate presidency or SGF from his region.
He said, “I have no knowledge of such demands. The APC has not started allocating offices to any region or persons. Our interest is how to win elections because you can’t share offices without winning elections.
“We have a presidential candidate that demands that all hands must be on deck. Nobody enjoys any booty or loot before the war. That can only happen after the hostility ends.”
However, he said that such a move could not be ruled out when informed that a top source had confirmed that conversations were ongoing.
Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, the South-East APC chairman, added, “I cannot claim I am unaware the zone desires some inclusion in the incoming administration.
I haven’t been approached, though, regarding the precise position they’re considering.
Although we haven’t requested any specific roles, I think the next president will be just enough to take the zone into consideration for some arrangements.
