In a somber turn of events on Friday, March 1, 2024, a devastating road accident claimed the lives of a commercial driver and his conductor in Anambra State.
The incident occurred along the Ihiala—Owerri Expressway, involving a Mercedes truck with registration number XD131NSH. Tragically, the accident took the lives of the unidentified driver and his conductor, who were the sole occupants of the vehicle at the time of the crash, which happened around 9:30 a.m.
Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the State, CC Adeoye Irelewuyi, attributed the crash to excessive speeding. He stated that eyewitnesses reported the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and collide with a large gutter.
The deceased victims were promptly conveyed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Mortuary in Ihiala by compassionate individuals before the FRSC rescue team arrived. The team swiftly cleared the debris strewn across the expressway, restoring normalcy to both human and vehicular traffic in the area.
Expressing condolences to the families of the deceased, the Sector Commander urged motorists to refrain from excessive speeding and adhere to safe speed limits conducive to maintaining control of their vehicles.
