President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to addressing the prevailing insecurity in the nation during a ceremony on Tuesday where two T129 Attack Combat Helicopters and one King Air Beechcraft 360ER mobility aircraft were inducted for use by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu underscored the significance of the acquisition and induction of these aircraft as a testament to the administration’s dedication to enhancing national security. The induction ceremony, held at the 131 Engineering Group Hangar, Nigeria Air Force Base, Makurdi, marked a milestone in the nation’s efforts to bolster its airpower capabilities in the fight against terrorism.

Acknowledging the pivotal role played by the NAF since its establishment in 1964 in safeguarding national security, international operations, and humanitarian endeavors, President Tinubu commended the Chief of Air Staff, officers, and personnel for their unwavering commitment to enhancing national security.

While highlighting substantial progress in counterterrorism efforts, President Tinubu emphasized the need for sustained efforts until security challenges are fully addressed. He called for a paradigm shift in mindset, strategy, and tactics to effectively combat the menace of insecurity.

Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff, outlined the recent acquisitions by the NAF, including two Diamond 62 surveillance aircraft, two T-129 ATAK helicopters, and a King Air 360 ER. He also announced plans for the induction of 46 new aircraft of various types over the next 18 months.

Expressing gratitude to President Tinubu for his foresight and steadfast support for the armed forces, Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru hailed the induction of the newly acquired aircraft as a testament to the administration’s commitment to addressing insecurity. He urged the NAF to maximize the utility of the new assets in safeguarding the nation.

Experts present at the event provided insights into the capabilities of the T129 ATAK, highlighting its suitability for armed reconnaissance and attack missions in challenging environments and adverse weather conditions.

The ceremony featured the signing of handing-over documents and an impressive aerial display by the T129 Attack Combat Helicopter, underscoring the nation’s resolve to enhance its defense capabilities in the face of evolving security threats.
