The Anambra State government has refuted an old video purportedly showing Governor Chukwuma Soludo announcing a ban on Okada (motorcycles) and Keke (tricycles) operations due to security concerns.
In a press statement released by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Christian Aburime, the government clarified that the video in question is dated May 26, 2022—nearly two years ago. The government emphasized that mischievous elements are exploiting the old recording to create a misleading impression of the current security situation in Anambra State.
According to the statement, the directives issued in the video were specific, time-bound measures implemented to address temporary security challenges in certain Local Government Areas. These measures were successful and have since been reevaluated and adjusted as the security situation in the state has significantly improved over time.
To dispel any confusion, the Anambra State Government emphasized that there is no comprehensive ban on Okada, Keke, or shuttle bus operations in any part of the state. These crucial modes of transportation continue to play essential roles in the state’s economy and daily lives.
The government’s statement aims to set the record straight and assure residents that current policies regarding transportation remain in accordance with the evolving security landscape in Anambra State.
