The Federal Government has announced its commitment to offering thorough rehabilitation for the four girls of the Al-Kadriyar family who recently endured a two-week ordeal in the hands of their abductors. Mrs. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, the Minister of Women Affairs, revealed this information on Monday following her visit to the rescued girls at a medical facility where they are currently receiving treatment.
Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized that the Ministry of Women Affairs would closely monitor the girls’ recovery and provide full rehabilitation, including engaging the services of a psychologist, to address the trauma they experienced during their captivity.
The Minister proposed the relocation of the girls from their current school to a safer environment, and she recommended that one of them undergo her National Youth Service Scheme at the ministry.
Commending the collaborative efforts of the army, police, and other security agencies in the girls’ release, she expressed concern about the rising cases of kidnappings. Kennedy-Ohanenye assured that President Bola Tinubu is actively working to address the situation and pledged to update both the President and the First Lady on the girls’ condition.
As part of the preparations for their rehabilitation, Kennedy-Ohanenye presented food beverages, soap, noodles, and sanitary items to the girls.
The father of the girls, Mr. Al-Kadriyar Monsoor, expressed gratitude to the government and security agencies for their efforts. He urged the federal government to enhance collaboration among various security agencies and stressed the importance of robust machinery at the grassroots level for community-based intelligence sharing.
Monsoor highlighted the vulnerability of the Bwari area, bordered by four states—Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, and Kaduna—and called for improved community-based intelligence and communication to enhance safety at the grassroots level.
The abduction of the girls occurred within their residence in the Zuma 1 area of Bwari Area Council on January 2nd. Unfortunately, the family’s failure to meet the kidnappers’ demands within the specified deadline led to the tragic killing of one of the daughters, Nabeeha. The FCT anti-kidnapping squad, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, successfully rescued the remaining girls around the Kajuru forest in Kaduna state on Saturday.
