Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has expressed admiration for the achievement of a young Nigerian artist, Chancellor Ahaghotu, who recently broke a Guinness World Record in painting.

In a statement released on Sunday, Obi lauded Ahaghotu, an art student from Nigeria, for accomplishing the feat of the longest painting marathon, lasting an impressive 100 hours. The former Anambra governor described the achievement as a positive story emerging from a nation facing challenges of successive leadership failures.

“I congratulate the young talented student for this achievement, which is an obvious attestation of his hard work, resilience, and commitment to his art,” stated Obi. He went on to express that Ahaghotu’s exceptional accomplishment reinforces the belief in a New Nigeria that is achievable.

Obi encouraged not only the artist but also other Nigerian youth to persist in their pursuit of self-development through hard work, emphasizing that such efforts equip individuals with the necessary skills for future success.

Guinness World Records announced Chancellor, currently a sophomore at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, as the new record holder for the longest painting marathon. He surpassed the previous record of 60 hours set by Roland Palmaerts (Belgium/Canada) in 2013. Chancellor’s marathon involved creating 106 pieces across various subjects, including celebrities, food items, plants, animals, and more, over four days of continuous painting. Before embarking on the record attempt, Chancellor expressed his aspiration to enhance his recognition as an artist both within his school and globally.
