In a philanthropic gesture, Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, distributed N25 million to 250 elderly men and women from the 25 Local Government Areas of Delta State. The cash presentation took place at the Government House in Asaba, the Delta State capital, through the Renewed Hope Initiative under the Elderly Support Scheme.
Representing Mrs. Tinubu at the event, the Wife of the Delta State governor, Mrs. Tobore Oborevwori, extended the support by providing clothing materials and offering free medical checkups to the elderly citizens. This initiative was organized under the theme “Better Days Ahead.”
Expressing her joy at the inaugural edition of the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme, Mrs. Tinubu highlighted the program’s significance in promoting the well-being of elderly citizens. She underscored the commitment to building a more inclusive and compassionate society.
The Elderly Support Scheme aims to assist 250 vulnerable citizens aged 65 and above in all 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory, and veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association. Each selected beneficiary will receive N100,000 to alleviate economic burdens during the festive period, totaling N950 million, as approved by the Governing Board of the Renewed Hope Initiative.
Mrs. Tinubu emphasized the importance of prioritizing elderly citizens during the festive season, acknowledging their contributions and recognizing the unique challenges they face. She expressed gratitude to those who supported the event with free medical screening and the distribution of other items to the beneficiaries.
Addressing the senior citizens, Mrs. Oborevwori, representing the governor’s wife, lauded the timely and commendable gesture of the Renewed Hope Initiative. She acknowledged the impact of the scheme on families, particularly the elderly, who are facing financial difficulties amid the challenging economic situation in the country. Mrs. Oborevwori commended Mrs. Tinubu’s efforts to alleviate economic strains on senior citizens during the festive period, noting that the gesture is well appreciated by the people of the state.
