The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele is sick, Bellnewsonline.com has learned.

This was disclosed after his failure to honour an invitation by members of the House of Representatives to defend the proposed cash withdrawal limit policy which is expected to kickstart on January 9, 2023.

This development was contained in a letter sent to the House of Representatives signed by the Deputy Governor, Corporate Services of the CBN, Edward Adamu.

Recall that the House was to grill Emefiele last Thursday over the policy which among others, restricted cash withdrawals from over-the-counter and Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) to N100, 000 and N500, 000 weekly for individuals and corporate organizations, respectively, but he failed to appear before the lawmakers. He was also billed to show up on Tuesday, but he did not.

Bellnewsonline.com understands that Emefiele will be represented by Aisha Ahmad, the CBN’s Deputy Governor, Financial System Stability. Ahmad will stand in for Emefiele on Thursday.

Speaker of the House, Gbajabiamila read out Amadu’s letter to members in the middle of Wednesday’s plenary and the lawmakers resolved to accept Emefiele’s representation.
