Ahead of 2023 and amidst their refusal to openly declare support for Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of their party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), one of the aggrieved five governors of the main opposition party who have described themselves as the G5, has reportedly met privately with the party’s presidential flag-bearer in Abuja.

Bellnewsonline.com learned that one of the G5 governors, from the South-East region (name withheld), visited Atiku a few days ago and assured him of his loyalty.

The governor reportedly said he was only fraternising with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, who is the face of the G5, ‘because of their friendship and what he had benefited from him’.

The G5 consists of PDP governors – Wike; Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde; Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu; Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom; and Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi – who said they are unhappy with the same-region domiciliation of the presidential candidacy and National Chairman position.

Bellnewsonline.com quotes a source privy to the visit as saying, “The governor went to Abuja. He told the former VP that he would work for him and the PDP, saying he was following Wike because of their friendship and what he had benefited from him.

“He also said he would never work for any other candidate or political party apart from the PDP and Atiku.”
