- Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, on Saturday named Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant of Southern extraction who can emerge the party’s flagbearer for the 2023 election.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Wike, who has been a staunch critic of the present administration, is hoping to bring back the PDP to power in 2023, and recently said only death will stop his presidential ambition.
“Wike is not making noise. But he is making news. Fear him! If any Southerner can win the PDP primary, it is Wike,” Omokri wrote on his verified Twitter handle.
Presidential aspirants on the platform of the PDP, after months of campaigns from one state to the other in search of the support of the party’s 3,700 delegates ahead of the party’s presidential primary scheduled for later this month, are now ready to do battle for the opposition’s party’s much coveted 2023 presidential ticket.
It is understood that most of the presidential hopefuls are now busy lobbying party leaders and other prominent stakeholders for support in pursuit of their aspirations.
They include Wike; a former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar; ex-Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi; former Senate Presidents, Anyim Pius Anyim and Bukola Saraki; and Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State.
