Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi said he was neither against the presidential aspiration of Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), nor the quest for Nigeria’s president of Igbo extraction in 2023.
Umahi made the clarifications on Friday while reacting to a post making the rounds on social media quoting him as saying that he was against Mr Obi’s presidential aspiration.
The post also quoted Umahi as saying that he no longer believes in the struggle for Nigeria’s president of Igbo extraction.
According to Bellnews Online, The Governor, however, claimed that the post in circulation was written by political operatives in a press release that was signed by the State Commissioner for Information, Barrister Uchenna Orji.
The statement reads: “The attention of Ebonyi State administration has been called to a social media post being recently in circulation and purportedly written by the hard-working Governor of Ebonyi State by disgruntled and frustrated political jobbers“. Daily Independent reports.
For the record, the governor of Ebonyi State is not opposed to His Excellency Peter Obi running for president; on the contrary, he really admires his courage throughout the process.
“His Excellency, Engr Umahi never claimed Peter Obi is going nowhere or that he doesn’t believe in Igbo Presidency,” the statement reads.
However, as an exemplary party man, His Excellency David Nweze Umahi will support the APC in all of its state and federal elections.
The governor is of the opinion that voters will freely support the candidates of their choice and that the majority of party members will support their parties during elections.
