Nigeria Police commences probe of commissioner’s mysterious death in Borno state

The Borno State Police Command has launched an urgent investigation into the sudden death of the State’s Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, Ibrahim Idriss Garba.

Garba died on Saturday morning, October 21, in Maiduguri, according to Governor Babagana Zulum’s spokesman, Isa Gusau.

According to Gusau, the investigation is at the behest of Governor Babagana Zulum and the State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Yusuf, who was at the deceased’s house to commiserate with his family.

“Governor Babagana Umara Zulum received the news with intense shock and profound grief.

“The Governor mourns alongside the late commissioner’s family, other loved ones, friends, associates, and members of the state executive council,” Gusau said in a terse statement.

Some sources said the young commissioner is suspected to have died from a heart-related ailment, while others said he was poisoned.

His remains were taken to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital in the state capital.

Late Ibrahim Idriss Garba was the Governor’s Special Adviser on Special Projects before he was elevated and appointed a commissioner at the commencement of Zulum’s second term.
