The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has approved the appointment of Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello as the new Emir and Sarkin Katsina of Gusau Emirate.

Bellnews reports that the new Emir of Gusau was appointed following the passing of his father, His Royal Highness Ibrahim Bello, who died on July 25, 2025, after a decade on the throne.

The new Emir becomes the 16th monarch of the Gusau Emirate Council.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, announced the appointment on Monday, noting that the decision followed the traditional selection process by the Emirate’s kingmakers, in line with established customs and relevant legal provisions.

“His appointment was made based on the recommendation of the Gusau Emirate kingmakers and in accordance with extant laws and customs,” the SSG stated.

Bellnews understands that Abdulkadir Bello, who is the eldest son of the late Emir, previously held the traditional title of Bunun Gusau, a prestigious position in the Emirate’s hierarchy.

With his new appointment, he steps into the role formerly held by his father, marking a continuation of a deeply rooted royal lineage.

Governor Lawal, while congratulating the new Emir, charged him to preserve the legacy of his late father and that of his ancestors, especially his forebear, Malam Sambo Dan Ashafa, a revered historical figure in the region.

“I urge you to be a beacon of unity, peace, and development. Promote harmonious coexistence not just within Gusau Emirate, but across the entire state,” Governor Lawal said.

The Governor expressed confidence that the new Emir would bring wisdom, experience, and continuity to the royal institution, especially at a time when the state seeks peace and progressive leadership.
